Shouts of "abracadabra" could be heard throughout the halls recently at Pass Christian Elementary School! This magical show was planned by Self-Contained Special Education Teacher Ms. Harrison and Occupational Therapist Ms. Miller after collaborating about the needs of their students. They both felt that students requiring special services rarely enjoy the opportunity to be "in the spotlight" with their peers and family cheering for them. Ms. Harrison and Ms. Miller thought that a magic show would allow these students to not be seen as handicapped but as children just having fun. Skills (such as eye-hand coordination, impulse control, sequencing, and public speaking) required for the students to complete the magic tricks were strengthened through repetition and concentration. Each student preformed the special trick they practiced, and the show concluded with thunderous applause and refreshments. Pass Christian Elementary School students are truly amazing, with and without magic!
