The African Americans in Aviation Traveling Museum visited our 5th grade students yesterday. This traveling museum pays tribute to black aviators in US History, including Pass Christian’s own John C. Robinson, the Brown Condor.
Mr. Chauncey Spencer II shared his father's inspirational story of advocating for Black participation in aviation training. Chauncy Spencer Sr. 's work led to the formation of the Tuskegee Institute flight school in Alabama which trained Black United States Army Air Corps combat pilots.
From there, students visited the traveling classroom and learned about other African American pioneers of aviation in the United States.
We would like to extend a huge "Thank you" to the Roberts, Ricketts, and Hinton families for providing this amazing opportunity for our students.
