The fifth grade Explore Lego Pirates at PCES were “over the moon” to have Seth Johnson from NASA’s office of STEM engagements come in and speak about all things concerning space, space travel, and the effects of space travel on humans. The PCES fifth grade gifted program has 4 First Lego League (FLL) Robotics teams, and it just so happens that the FLL theme this year is “Into Orbit”! So, they turned to the experts, NASA! Mr. Johnson spent time answering the students burning space questions about topics of interest to their robotics teams like: the training that astronauts go through, the different types of space suits astronauts wear, and how astronauts’ health and wellness is monitored and maintained in space. The students were very excited about the wealth of information that Mr. Johnson was able to provide. They were able to apply all they learned to help in the development of a creative and innovative solution to the physical or social problems faced by humans during long duration space exploration within our Sun’s solar system!
